Public Transport – Accidents Lurks

Sunday, August 29th, 2010 | London Living with No Comments »

Commuters in London have become complacent with their environment and run the risk of injury every day to gain a couple of minutes instead of wasting it on Public Transport. This is quite concerning as the amount of accidents are on the rise. I constantly see people running across a busy street trying to catch a bus or people ignoring safety rules on a train platform. As daft as it may seem, it only occurred to me how reckless we all are when I saw someone else doing it without worry on his face.

Train Platform

The safety notices are there for a reason, to keep you safe and out of the hospitals. Use the crossings to cross roads instead of running like a mad man through traffic. Stand behind the yellow line on railway platforms and tube platforms. Mind the gap when it says to mind the gap, simple things we read but never take in. An accident happens so quickly and it can so easily end up in a fatality. It is easier to be safe than a lifetime of therapy and rehabilitation.

Yellow Line on Platform

Pedestrians in London, use the crossings where pointed out. Cyclists should wear protective equipment including visible clothing. Moped / Scooters should do the same, no point in wearing black and blending in with the dull skies in the United Kingdom. Rail and tube passengers should always stand behind the yellow line even if trains are not approaching. Railway platforms are elevated and could be hard for someone to get out before an approaching train comes into the station. Tube tracks are live and could cause instant fatality.

In simple terms, always watch out, accidents are always lurking!

Daylight Blues Approaching for Britain

Thursday, August 19th, 2010 | General with No Comments »

We are nearing the end of August and it is only a matter of weeks before we notice the sun going down earlier and earlier. The overwhelming orange street lights will be our only source of light outside especially if you are an office worker. Thousands of people in Britain suffer with the winter blues and it does take getting used to. Who seriously wants to spend the entire winter feeling gloomy and blue?

There is a secret weapon to help you battle the winter blues in your own home and it is called daylight bulbs. Daylight bulbs have been around for a while, yet we make little use of them. Most of the daylight bulbs are energy efficient so no need to increase electricity consumption. I bought one of these bulbs yesterday to see how amazing it really is before switching all my light bulbs. The daylight bulb is amazing, that about sums it up for me.

There is one negative to these daylight bulbs, they can be costly but once you have them, I am now referring to the energy efficient daylight bulbs, then they can last for a long time. The one I got cost around £10 but well worth the light it gives and it will definitely make this dark house come to life in winter and hopefully I won’t be suffering with the winter blues. All major stores sell these daylight bulbs but the variety you get at a DIY store is much more.

Do yourself a favour, google it some more, ask people but definitely give the daylight bulb a chance to wow you this winter!

Days Out London: Brighton Beach

Monday, June 28th, 2010 | London Living with No Comments »

It has been a scorcher of a weekend in the United Kingdom. Those days do not come often but when they are here, you better make your plans early on to make the most of it. The best part of summer in the United Kingdom is the daylight until 22:00 at night! We took a friend up on an invitation to the beach. It does wonders for the soul to get out of London, to forget about the travel chaos, the commute, work and the general dullness of some buildings in London.

Brighton Beach

Now the beauty of days out in the United Kingdom is the cheaper travel on trains if you travel in a group of at least four people. This is called GroupSave. We seriously recommend that you Google GroupSave to see what else you can experience. A typical off-peak return ticket costs about £15.00 per person. Now make use of GroupSave which is in simple terms, four people travel for the price of two… a massive saving!

Brighton Beach

As you can read from the headline, we made our way like so many other people to Brighton. The atmosphere on the beach is amazing and it’s close to the train station. The pier is a massive attraction to those who can not sit still on the beach for long periods of time. The sea is calm and can be a bit cold but that does not stop people from splashing about. It’s a pebble beach….yup, stones! Mind you, it is quite comfortable and you will be thankful that everything is not covered in sand at the end of the day.

Brighton Beach

Do yourself a favour; take sunscreen as the sun can be quite unforgiving most of the time. A small cooler bag is ideal if you do not fancy paying through your ears for drinks and food on the beachfront.  You can buy a cheap beach umbrella at B&Q for around £8.00, a definite good idea if you are intending on spending the whole day there. Brighton has a great feel to it, the atmosphere is vibrant and exciting, what is not to like?
