UK Mailing System

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 | London Living with No Comments »

The one thing I love about living in London is the fact that you get your mail delivered straight to your door six days of the week. No need to go visit the post office to collect your post from a post box. That means that you are connected to the property you stay in and not an untraceable post box in an office. So when you come home, you always have a bill or flyer waiting for you. I never get constructive and informative post anyway, hehe.

This is where the catch comes in. Because everyone living in the United Kingdom receives mail directly to their door and that ties them to that property, you will find that you will receive a lot of other people’s post when moving into a new property. This is generally a bad thing if you still receive a lot of their old mail. Should the previous tenants raked up a bit of debt or fell into financial problems it relates to the property you stay in and the creditors will look at you funny when you apply for a credit card or loan.

A little tip should you be one of those lucky people being bombarded with previous tenants post, write on each of the envelopes “Return to Sender” as well as “That Person Does Not Live Here Anymore” and you throw it back into the post box. Keep on doing that until you do not receive anything more. That should help clear the bad name should the previous tenants have wrecked it.

Mobile Phone Deception

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 | London Living with No Comments »

Today’s topic is all about mobile phone networks in London and why you should be careful when you answer the phone and start talking to somebody you do not know. This is what happened, please take my advice and steer clear as this will now add to my worries of fraud already as it is.

I am close to the end of my current mobile phone contract with my current mobile phone provider, so I am expecting a phone call from them telling me that I can upgrade my account soon and get a new handset by choosing to stay with them for another 12 or 18 months. I get this phone call at lunch today and this guy starts talking as if he is from my current mobile phone provider. I got all excited as I know a new handset will be arriving soon and I can get a great deal again. He ended up almost setting up an entire new account for me with another service provider; I only found out that it was not the same service provider when the quality control officer read out terms to me. I was immediately mad at them for deceiving me in thinking it was my own mobile phone provider ringing me up; instead it was their competition sitting with my bank details and home address. How lovely is that! I told them to immediately clear my details and I have now sent a complaint to the mobile phone network explaining the situation about the call centre representing them.

My advice is that you should always ask a couple of times to confirm it is the company you are dealing with. Do not give any bank details over the phone at all times. I admit I have been stupid, probably why I am still so angry at them.

Tutankhamun 02 Arena

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 | London Events with 2 Comments

I was gob smacked when I heard that I have won a family pass to the famous Tutankhamun exhibition at the O2 Arena in London. When I entered the competition I did not actually think that I would win but guess my luck changed a bit as the tickets arrived in the post this morning. You’re probably wondering what in the world Tutankhamun is and why am I so excited about it.

The exhibition is called Tutankhamun & Golden Age of Pharaohs. Tutankhamun is world’s most famous pharaoh and his tomb was discovered in Egypt in 1922. The exhibition will feature over 130 ancient treasures. If you are in London from November 2007 until August 2008 then you should definitely buy a ticket and visit the exhibition!
