Camden Blaze

Monday, February 11th, 2008 | General with No Comments »

One of London’s most famous markets went up in flame on Saturday night, well, not all of it but a good chunk of the market. The market is known to many as Camden Town or Camden Lock. The London Fire Brigade definitely deserves a round of applause for saving as much as they could. Twenty fire engines and around 100 fire fighters tried to extinguish the blaze.

Authorities believe that the fire started around 7pm in the canal area. Extensive damage has been done to a number of market stalls. Such a shame actually as the area will loose a lot of business trying to rebuild the great atmosphere of the market we have known and loved over the years. Hope they can rebuild the areas effected quickly.

Disposalble Living

I still find it amazing how much people throw away in the United Kingdom. We were gob smacked when we arrived in London to find couches, beds and TV’s on every second street I walk / drive past. Everything seems to be disposable, no wonder we have problems with full landfills.

We come from a country where you can’t even leave your bricks on the pavement as they will be taken and used by someone else, so our streets were quite clean, not cluttered with unwanted junk. The sad part is that most of the things you will see on the streets here are actually still working. It is so affordable to get new and better things every six months.

We have found some pretty nifty things on streets and we’re not ashamed of saying it as well. A working 19inch computer monitor, a working computer tower, black hi-fi speakers which all came handy as we started out with nothing. A few friends have mentioned that they even picked up a hoover, which saved them tonnes of money as well. Gumtree is full of ads where people give away furniture they no longer have space for or need. Check your local freecycle group on Yahoo for a few things you might be able to use before you throw it away!

Wishful Thinking

Found myself wandering around South Kensington the other day and I saw this from a distance, just had to have a closer look. This may sound silly but I have never been that close to a Lamborghini in my life! Now I know why the city boys and celebrities want one of these.

I have been told that the white ones are quite rare. Would not drive a white Lamborghini in London…. or would I? This specific Lamborghini is only £119 000. Does anyone have some spare change for me? hehe
