21 Accents

London, as you know by now has rapidly became a multi-cultural city where you will meet at least one person from anywhere in the world. We Londoners can really experience each other’s culture without leaving the M25 and that is pretty amazing. How many other cities can boast about this? I found this clip of a woman saying a phrase in 21 accents from around the world and she does them well to be honest.

Sitting here amazed with what I have just seen and thought it would be a good addition to stooly.com, have a taster of what you can experience when you live in London and encounter people from all over the world. Probably why so many travellers / students in London have Facebook pages with people from around the world they met whilst living in London or travelling through London. So enjoy the clip, I certainly did!

London from above…

I have been aching for the last three years to get on top of a tall building in Central London to admire the view and to see London properly. We have hinted at the building I work to allow us to sneak to the top of the building but they have laughed at us a few times now, meaning I’ve given up on begging.

Earlier this week, a colleague of mine came back into the office and told me that he just had a look; somebody forgot to lock the door to the roof as they had the window cleaners in earlier in the week. He took a few photos with his rubbish mobile phone but I convinced him that my nifty Nokia 95 needs to have a shot at it as well. So we sneaked up there like school kids knowing that if we get caught it would probably end up in HR.

When I opened the door, I was a little amused yet terrified as I noticed that there were no proper railings, clearly not meant for anyone that did not wear any safety gear. Quickly took a few photos to remember this daring moment for life and here it is. Now only if I had more time up there and a proper camera with a nice lens on it. One can dream!

Savings Goal

Lately I have become quite addicted to a new website I found one afternoon while browsing on the internet. Ever since discovering this website I have become obsessed with trying to save more, since we don’t have active savings, I decided to do a bit of research and get one going. Applied for a savings account and felt quite chuffed with myself when I deposited some money into the account, now to set up a direct debit to get more money to flow into that account on a regular basis instead of me frittering it away on rubbish.

When we first moved to the United Kingdom, a lot of people always joked with us and said that we are now earning mega bucks and that we should send some money to them. Yeah right, earning pounds is one thing and living in London is another. It is so easy to fall into that spending web when you live in London, a pound here and a pound there quickly adds up and before you know it, you are broke all over again. So having a savings account will force me to save a bit more of the money we work damn hard for and get to splurge on a nice holiday once or twice a year somewhere other than London.

Do not be a fool like the other millions of travellers when coming to London and splurge it all away on stuff that is replaceable in a heart beat, that is when debt becomes your friend in you are stuck in that never ending cycle of just surviving each month. A tip, shop around for a good savings account; do not just apply for one at your local bank because it is convenient and easy. They may not always pay the best rates to get the most bang out of your buck!
