Fraudulent Bank Emails

21 May 2009 479 views No Comment

Folks, I urge you to double check each and every email you receive, especially if it has anything to do with a bank you bank with. Fraud seems to be on the increase which makes it ever so important to watch out for scammers. Believe it or not, despite me knowing my way around the Internet and being extra careful with my details, someone managed to get a hold of my card details and went on a shopping spree. At least my bank’s fraud team was on it like a fly on a piece of food and caught it early on.

Anyway, I came home tonight and checked my emails. You should never receive an email from your bank asking you to update any details. That should be the first warning sign going off as they should have all the details they need on you. There is nothing to update, someone is just trying to con you into giving them details about you so that they can either steal your identity or steal your money. Either way, it is bad!

The fist image shows you an example of a scam email; watch out for them, they can disguise them pretty well these days. The second picture is what website the link points to. As you can see, the link points to some server in Germany because of the .be extension. That clearly is not Santander / Alliance & Leicester’s website in the United Kingdom.

Your bank should have a section where you can forward the scam email to them so that they can investigate and hopefully catch some of these people before too many lives are ruined.
