We have recently won tickets to a film premiere in London, all very exciting and a once in a lifetime opportunity and as we all know, it can be quite a big deal if you do not know what to expect from the film premiere.

A film premiere is an event organised to promote a movie in a few major cities across the world. London happens to be one of those cities always chosen which is great for us Londoners; we can also have a piece of Hollywood land.

The film premieres in London are normally held in Leicester Square where film crews spend the whole day prepping the area for the big event that evening. That includes a big screen, red carpets and a lot of promotional posters in the area. Anyone is able to go to Leicester Square and stand behind the barriers put up in hope of a famous celebrity signing their book, photo or poster. A few lucky fans will even get a photo with a celebrity if their plea grabs their attention. Members of the public hardly ever get tickets to the movie itself being shown at the premiere. You can not buy those tickets at any office; most of them are given away by radio stations or newspapers. If you are really lucky or have a few pounds to spend, you can get a couple of tickets on eBay but I would not trust them at all.

What would you expect from the movie premiere itself if you managed to get tickets from somewhere? That is the very question I asked myself and a few others when we won tickets to see Iron Man in Leicester Square. Nervous as hell I started searching on the internet for experiences from other people but could not find any so here is our version of what to expect from a movie premiere in London.

The people standing around in suits at Leicester Square are the people who you would need to ask where the ticket queue will be. They are normally quite friendly and helpful. Once it is time, they will open the barrier and you get to walk in front of where ever you please on the red carpet into the cinema. It is quite a feeling, especially if you are one of the first ones because everyone will be watching, the press and the fans behind the barriers. A lot of people will advise you t dress up for the occasion but to be honest, the people do not really notice if you don’t. All they care about is the celebrity of the hour signing their books and posters. Once you are in the cinema, bouncers and cinema staff will show you to your seat. We found popcorn and a bottle of water on our seats, might differ from premiere to premiere.

Once everyone was seated the director of the movie stood on the stage and talked briefly about the movie, he/she then introduced the actors/actresses of the movie and they in turn say a few words each. The atmosphere in the cinema is quite good and you might even be lucky enough to sit in between local celebrities to watch the movie. It is all and all a good experience to have and definitely a must if you are ever so lucky to get your hands on a pair of tickets.
