Don’t even ask how we ended up at Liverpool of all places but we went there for three days to discover another part of England. We took the train straight from London to Liverpool using Virgin Trains. We got a great deal online from Virgin Trains because we booked in advance; it helps to book in advance people. The train ride was interesting, got to see a lot of the countryside that has sparked the need for a road trip in the United Kingdom in the next six months or so.

Liverpool Station is situated smack in the middle of Liverpool which makes it ideal for a weekend break to escape to Liverpool if you feel like exploring. Liverpool is famous for being the birthplace of the Beatles and various other international acts but we all seem to remember the Beatles, let’s stick to that.

We booked into a fairly priced hotel we managed to find on the internet. Be warned that if you are going to visit Liverpool in the summer, expect to pay around London prices for accommodation. I am sure if you dig around on the internet long enough you will find plenty of backpacker accommodation and bed & breakfasts. Your trip to Liverpool does not have to cost you an arm and leg, book in advance and you will get great discounts.
Started to exploring a bit of Liverpool on foot, could not be bothered to learn their bus system, tried to but I gave up as the transport system in London have spoiled me rotten with their idiot proof guides to using the public transport system. We found that you see a lot more on foot and everything is not as far as we thought it would be.

Try as many culinary dishes as you can find in Liverpool, we tried a bit of everything and we were not disappointed. Greek cuisine to Mediterranean cuisine, we had it all and it was great, let’s hope on your trip you won’t be too disappointed or put off to try something new in Liverpool.

Liverpool is more of a nightlife city than a tourist city but none the less, you can have fun either way. The Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral are two of the main tourist attractions. A definite must for any tourist is the Mersey Ferry across the river, once you are on the other side of the river you can get off and visit the space port and then return back. It is great fun to see the river and the architecture along the river.

One of the main reasons why we decided on Liverpool was the fact that we could easily take a train further down and visit one of the beaches there for the day. It has been ages since we smelled the sea and was aching for a bit of seaside and beach sand. While you are in Liverpool, visit Crosby Beach which is famous for the statues all over the beach by Antony Gormley.
