We have recently had the pleasure to explore one of many destinations EasyJet flies to currently. We spontaneously chose Turin and booked a whole holiday around it. Quite exciting and nerve wrecking to chose a city you do not hear about every day. We have had great trouble on finding decent information about Turin, which is why this guide will be as thorough as we possibly can make it.
It is pretty easy to book a hotel in Turin and the prices you would be expected to pay is average; you might even get a better deal if you book in advance. Remember to avoid as much of the Europe summer season as possible. Then again, Turin seems to be a popular destination in winter as they are so close to the Alps.
Turin has an international airport located approximately 16km’s away from Turin. You can either take a bus or a train straight into Turin. I strongly recommend taking the train straight into Turin, takes about 15 minutes and you would be expected to pay around five euros. If you buy the piedmont card at the airport for 3/5/7 days, you get free travel on all trains and trams and busses but not the subway network.
Turin is working on their tourism image, thus their lack of English is appalling. We could hardly find anybody that could guide us into the right direction. The only people that could speak a bit of English were the people working at all the museums and tourist hotspots. I can not blame them for not speaking a bit of English but if they want more tourists then I recommend them actually going the extra mile. I strongly suggest you get an Italian Phrase book or learn a bit of Italian as you will have a tough time understanding them. We had a tough time ordering food, pointed to all the pictures and hoped for the best.
There are a couple of supermarkets around Turin but quite hard to find as tourists have no idea what they are looking for. They are not over marketed like over in England where you can’t miss them at all. Tobacco stalls and corner shops only sell cigarettes, lotto and bus tickets. There is no such thing as a convenience store in Turin, odd, I know.
Turin has a lot of culture and that alone is what makes Turin so great to visit over a couple of days. You can visit around 150 museums, explore the Superga and the Mole Antonelliana with includes the famous panoramic lift.
